New Zealand Brass Band Championships 2022

Team Brassbanned is pumped to be heading to Wellington to live stream the 2022 New Zealand Brass Band Championships.

This is our first live (in person) contest we have been able to attend since 2019. After far too many online replays, and some really fun remote productions we are out of control excited to be in a great hall, listening to many great bands delivery their best performances of some amazing works.
We hope you can join us on the live stream!

The contest runs across two venues in Wellington – the Michael Fowler Centre and Wellington College – from Wednesday July 13 through to Saturday July 16.

Team Brassbanned will touch down in Wellington late Tuesday night, then be busy setting up for a fantastic few days of streaming the world’s oldest, continuously running, brass band contest.

The rough outline of our streaming plan is:

Wednesday July 13 – Selected Solos, Junior Champion of Champions at 5:00pm, then an Evening of Melody at 7:30pm

Thursday July 14 – Selected Solos through the day, Champion of Champions at 7:30pm

Friday July 15 – setting up Michael Fowler Centre from 5am, then Sacred Item and Test from 9:30am with B Grade / 1:00pm with C Grade / 4:30pm with A Grade.

Saturday July 16 – Own Choice performances of B, C and A Grade, as well as D and Youth Grade events

We have had a peak at the own choice selections, and there are some brass band bangers in the mix! Classics like Paganini Variations, Variations on Laudate Dominum, Fire in the Blood – as well as the excitement that will be Fraternity, Spiriti, REM-scapes and Within Blue Empires. We will post full schedules as we get closer, and disclose the draw on the morning of each day of contesting.

Everything will be completely free to view – but we will be asking Loyal Viewers who enjoy the stream to consider making a donation to the Brass Band Association of New Zealand, and Brassbanned’s new Patreon account.

We would like to once again say a huge thank you to ABI Music for thei ongoing support of live streaming these contests – and are excited to see what they will have on display at the trade stands.

To everyone attending the contest in person – we can’t WAIT to see you (and grab a quick interview). To everyone watching along at home – we will catch you on the chat.
